  • Twelve QA services companies, eight weighted dimensions. Each one was scored from 0 to 100 on test automation depth (weight 18), security and delivery governance (16), client review quality and volume (14), industry and regulatory coverage (13), named clients and published outcomes (12), engagement flexibility and onboarding (11), scale and delivery footprint (9) and pricing transparency (7). A total is the weighted sum of those eight numbers, not a figure entered by hand. The weights were fixed before any company data was collected. The lowest total in the field is 49.0 out of 100, and the spread from first place to twelfth is 26.5 points.

  • DeviQA finished first on 75.5, QA Madness second on 74.2, Testlio third on 73.7. The three are separated by 1.8 points, so the order at the top turns on a single dimension rather than a wide margin. DeviQA scored 90 on automation depth and 100 on review quality. QA Madness scored 90 on engagement flexibility, the highest in the field. Testlio scored 90 on named clients and published outcomes, also the highest in the field.

  • Best for, read by what the buyer needs. Handing the whole QA function to a supplier rather than adding testers to your own: DeviQA. Medical device software: ScienceSoft, which holds ISO 13485; no other company here holds that certificate. A certificate that only an accredited laboratory can issue, such as FIDO, Mastercard biometrics or DEA-approved EPCS: iBeta, an NVLAP-accredited lab under Lab Code 200962-0. Release testing in markets where your team has no testers: Global App Testing, whose crowd covers 190 countries. Testing that has to start this week: QA Madness, whose On Demand model states a start within two working days of the request — one of several start times that company publishes, so pin it to the model you are buying.

  • Every value traces to a public page, checked on 2026-09-06. The twelve company files hold 210 distinct source links: vendor sites, Clutch, G2, GoodFirms, LinkedIn company pages and the ISTQB and TMMi registries. Nothing here comes from a private briefing or a supplier questionnaire. Figures taken from case studies are marked vendor-published wherever they appear, because the client has not confirmed them.

  • Pricing transparency is the weakest dimension across the field, averaging 37.9 out of 100. Only two companies reach the level that requires a price on the company's own site. ScienceSoft publishes project bands, among them performance testing from $5,000 and a QA process audit at $24,000-$72,000+. QA Madness publishes fixed-price e-commerce packages at $1,300 and $1,800. For the other ten, the hourly band quoted in this comparison comes from a Clutch or GoodFirms profile, so budget for a scoping call before any two quotes can be set side by side.

How software testing companies are ranked here

Twelve companies are scored on eight dimensions, 0 to 100 on each. Every dimension has a published scale with defined levels at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100, and a level is credited only when a public source states the thing it asks for. The total is the sum of score × weight ÷ 100. No total is written into a company file; the figures below are computed from the eight scores.

Where the 1.3-point margin comes from

DeviQA finishes first on 75.5 and QA Madness second on 74.2. Two dimensions do most of the work in that margin. Named clients and published outcomes runs 75 for the first against 40 for the second, which is worth 4.2 points of the total. Delivery footprint runs 75 to 55 and adds 1.8 more. Automation depth contributes 0.9 and industry coverage 0.65. The two are level on governance, at 60 each, and level on reviews, at 100 each. The margin narrows in the other direction twice: pricing transparency, 25 against 75, costs the leader 3.5 points, and engagement flexibility, 65 against 90, costs a further 2.75. What survives is a lead of 1.3 points — a first place built on published evidence of delivered work, holding off a second place built on how the supplier is bought. Testlio in third is 1.8 points back. Three companies inside two points is a close result, not a decisive one, and it should be read that way.

What a different weighting would produce

Because the top is tight, a change of a few weight points moves it. Each figure below holds the total at 100 and scales the other seven weights proportionally. Pricing transparency at 10 rather than 7 puts QA Madness first on 74.2, with DeviQA second on 73.9. Pricing at 12 pushes DeviQA to third. ScienceSoft takes second there because it publishes service price bands on its own pricing page, which scores 80 against the leader's 25. Its delivery footprint also scores higher, 85 against 75. Named-client proof at 22 rather than 12 puts Testlio first on 75.6, ahead of DeviQA on 75.4, on the back of a proof score of 90 against 75. Engagement flexibility at 16 rather than 11 returns QA Madness to first, 75.1 to 74.9. Two dimensions never change who is first, at any weight tested up to 40: automation depth and governance. A buyer who values a published rate above published outcomes is looking at a different first place from this one, and the scenario cuts further down the page name it row by row.

Three limits in the scales, found during scoring

Governance carries the second-largest weight and nobody reaches 75. The ceiling across the twelve is 70. Level 75 asks for a certificate number, an issuing body or a registry entry; ISO 27001 is named by almost every company here and its number is published by none. The column therefore measures how much of a certification a company discloses, not whether it holds one. DeviQA scores 60 on it: three certificates named on one page, a GDPR statement in the privacy policy, no document or number attached.

Engagement separates almost nobody. All twelve sit between 60 and 90 — a spread of 30 on a weight of 11. Across the twenty candidates collected, a minimum contract is published by five and an onboarding time by nine, so the score rests mainly on how many engagement models a company chooses to describe.

The pricing scale does not describe a supplier that publishes a model without a figure. Levels 25 and 50 both assume a rate range on a directory. TestDevLab and Global App Testing publish a pricing model and a minimum, and not one rate anywhere. They were scored 20 and 40, each with a written note on what is missing for the next level.

None of the three was fixed after the fact. The weights and scales were frozen when the methodology was accepted, before the first company file was written, and a repository hook rejects edits to that file while company data exists. Rewriting a scale after seeing which companies it favours would mean the ranking picked the rule that produced its own result, so the three defects stand as they are and the page ships with the methodology it was scored under.

Abbott Laboratories is reported running 1,500+ automated scripts on a glucose-monitoring platform. Test coverage there is stated at 90%. Regression on the same platform fell from two and a half weeks to one day. The Tipalti engagement covers twelve years. It carries 12,000+ bugs reported. Compass reports 85% test coverage, on 1,600+ automation scripts. Twenty-two industries are named on a single index page, healthcare, fintech and banking, pharmacy, biotech, dental, legaltech and telecom among them. Eighty-five reviews sit across three directories. Each of the three profiles reads 5.0.

Three columns belong to other companies on this page. The certificates are named without a certificate number, an issuing body or a registry entry. iBeta, by contrast, publishes NVLAP Lab Code 200962-0 for its own accreditation. Published proof is thinner than the client list suggests: three of the twenty-four named clients carry a case study. QAwerk attaches a figure to seven of its eighteen names. Scale is the third column, where a1qa states 1,100+ full-time QA engineers against 300+ here.

Fit is a product where automation coverage has to be reported as a number rather than asserted, and a regulated one: the healthcare and payments work is published with figures attached. Procurement that scores an appraised maturity level is not the fit, since none is published — Kualitatem is appraised at TMMi Level 5. Neither is a contract that needs the start date written into it, because no onboarding time and no minimum engagement appear on the site, where QA Madness publishes an On Demand model starting within two working days of the request.

Six ways to contract are published: full-time cover, part-time cover, work by estimate, on-demand testing, fixed-price e-commerce packages and IT outstaffing. Two of those packages carry figures on a page the company owns. The Basic web package is listed at $1,300 over three days. The Advanced web and mobile package is listed at $1,800 over five. Thirty-five automation tools are named, Playwright and Selenium among them. Accessibility work runs against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, with axe, Lighthouse, NVDA and JAWS behind it. The Web3 insurance case reports more than 1,200 tests written. Coverage of the business-critical flows there is put at 95%. That engagement ran eighteen months. Four QA engineers staffed it. The legal-software case integrates Cypress autotests into CI/CD, run after each code merge.

Two clients are named in public, Orderly and Apollo.ai. Most case pages state that the client name will not be disclosed. First place publishes twenty-four names, three of them with figures attached. The headcount the site gives as 200+ appears on LinkedIn as the 51-200 band. Price runs the other way: the packages here are priced before any call, while the leader's hourly band exists only on a directory profile.

The buyer this matches wants a scoped and priced package before signing a retainer, or is a product team adding Playwright or Selenium automation on top of an existing manual suite. It is not the fit for a programme that needs testers onshore: QualityLogic states that its operations sit inside the United States. Reference-led evaluation is thin here as well, where Testlio publishes eight named clients that carry an outcome. Procurement asking for SOC 2 or a TMMi appraisal alongside ISO 27001 has nothing to read either: neither appears on the site, and Kualitatem publishes both among its five credentials.

Twenty-two clients are named. Eight of them carry an outcome, and six of those state a number. BitPay reports customer-reported issues down 15%. Rush Street Interactive reports releases accelerated by 30%. Solidgate reports 95% of payment issues identified early through in-market payment testing. iProov reports $150k+ saved. Hallmark+ reports $1.34M in annual savings across 13 platforms. Five delivery shapes are described: crowdsourced, dedicated, burstable, outsourced and nearshore. The pricing page states that most engagements begin within fifteen days.

Reviews carry a weighted average of 4.70 across the two rated profiles. The second of those profiles holds a single review, where the three profiles at first place each read 5.0. No headcount appears on the site, so the figure on file is the 201-500 band read from the LinkedIn company page. All seven sectors on the site resolve to the same services page, so no dedicated industry page is evidenced. The offices field is empty for a stated reason: the company describes itself as fully remote and names no delivery location at all.

Mobile-first products shipping at high frequency suit this, as does release testing that has to scale up and back down again. Desktop and embedded work does not: the published automation frameworks are Appium, Espresso, Robotium and Selenium, which stop at mobile and the browser, where QualityLogic sells print-system test tooling and TestDevLab runs measurement on physical devices. Buyers who want a straightforward hourly deal are in the wrong place, since pricing is a platform subscription plus an annual consumption fund; QA Madness puts a price on both of its fixed-price packages before any call. A buyer who needs to know which office will staff the account is not served either, and ScienceSoft enumerates eight addresses across seven countries.

Four ISO certificates are published. Two of them appear on no other company file in this comparison: ISO 13485 for medical devices and ISO 27701 for privacy information management. The testing pricing page attaches figures to services. Managed testing is quoted at about $20,000 a month for three to five applications. Penetration testing is quoted at $5,000-$10,000. Code review is quoted at $8,000-$16,000. Eight offices spread over seven countries, from McKinney and Atlanta to Riga, Warsaw, Riyadh and Fujairah. Ramp-up is stated at one to three days. One case reports 99% API test coverage. In the same case, 56% of end-to-end UI smoke tests are automated.

Proof is the column that runs behind: six clients are named. None of the six carries a figure. The cases that do carry figures identify their client by sector and size instead, a commercial bank with $5B in assets and a US-based NGO among them, where first place attaches its numbers to Abbott, Tipalti and Compass by name. One directory profile publishes a rating, 42 Clutch reviews at 4.8. The G2 profile carries no rating, and no GoodFirms profile was located at either candidate address, against three rated profiles at DeviQA.

Privacy-heavy programmes suit this, with ISO 27701 sitting alongside ISO 27001 and delivery stated against HIPAA, PCI DSS and NYDFS. Teams that have to begin in days rather than weeks are the other. A buyer who wants a testing-only supplier should look elsewhere, because QA is one line of a broad IT business here and TestFort has sold testing and nothing else since 2001. Cost-led buyers should read the hourly band first: $50-99 on the Clutch profile. Eight of the twelve are quoted at $25-49, a1qa among them.

Another case cut flaky tests from 18% to 4.6%. A third reports $120K saved annually. Thirty-five automation tools are named. QA vendor transition is sold as a service in its own right. One case reports a switch completed in two, with zero untested releases. QE agents are published as one of the six contracting models.

Fourteen client names are published and every one of them sits on a homepage logo strip with no case text; the twelve quantified cases identify their client by sector, as "an online game developer" or "a Japanese IT service provider". The industries index returns HTTP 404. The twelve sectors on file are evidenced by the homepage and the portfolio page, where DeviQA names twenty-two on one index. The published handover window is the longest start time recorded for any company here.

Enterprises outsourcing a whole QA function rather than a single project are the audience, together with long-running regression programmes in banking, telecom and insurance. It is not the fit for a team that needs testers on the project this week, where ScienceSoft publishes a ramp-up of one to three days. Nor for a buyer who wants a US-based delivery team: the US presence is the Decatur head office, and delivery runs from Europe, Asia and Mexico. One accountable location is the third gap, where iBeta publishes a single address, in Aurora, Colorado.

LuxiEdge got a 0.00% error rate across 444.4 trillion operations in one hour. A fitness wearable got 87% fewer synchronisation failures. Battery consumption on that product came down 29%. The Dashlane engagement runs past ten years. The app crash rate there is down 48%. Compatibility coverage there is up 39%. Seven engagement models are named, one of them a testing centre of excellence for companies from twenty to four thousand employees.

The Clutch slug returned a 404 while the awards page displays two Clutch badges. The G2 profile publishes no rating, where first place carries three rated profiles. Headcount is 180+ QA engineers on the company page. The outsourcing page carries both that figure and a 100+ line. CMMI Level 3 is published as an appraisal with no CMMI Institute record found for it. The ISO code appears as 27001:2022 on the homepage and 27001-2013 on the awards page.

This suits a buyer who wants a testing specialist rather than a development shop with a QA line, and the published fixed-price model gives a way to buy a defined scope, though neither an hourly rate nor a price range appears on the site. European delivery runs from the London and Malta entities alongside the three R&D centres. Data that must not leave the EEA is the exclusion: the privacy policy states that personal data may be transferred and stored outside it, where TestDevLab publishes a Latvian legal entity with registration number 40103486142 and a named data-protection contact. One large co-located bench is the other gap: the engineers sit across six locations, where QA Madness publishes a single office, in Warsaw.

Thirteen of them carry outcome text rather than a bare logo: Pinterest for end-to-end testing of short videos, Microsoft Teams for battery and audio quality on mobile clients, LINE for VoIP call quality, Orange on an engagement past six years across voice communication products. Six engagement models are published, with a floor of one week for a one-time engagement. A proof of concept puts one QA engineer on the product for one to two weeks. The team is stated at 500+. Three ISO certificates are held, ISO 22301 among them.

No hourly figure exists on the company site or on any directory, where the leader at least has a band on a directory profile. The Clutch address returned a 410. The GoodFirms profile publishes no rating. Only one of the seven published cases states a number, the Crew engagement at close to 30% more engineering bandwidth. All twelve of the cases a1qa publishes state a measured result. No industry landing page appears anywhere in the collected sources.

Products whose quality has to be measured rather than merely exercised are what this fits, and the proof of concept gives a way to test that before committing. A buyer who needs a price before a call is not served here, and ScienceSoft publishes service price bands on its own site. Delivery outside Europe is the second gap — ten of the eleven addresses are European — where Kualitatem operates from the United States, the Gulf and Pakistan. Evaluation by review count is the third, at eleven reviews on a single platform, where Testlio publishes 76 on G2.

One credential of the five published here can be checked outside the vendor's own site. The TMMi Foundation registry carries the appraisal at Level 5, under certificate number BTSC-570618-241122-3708804990. That entry expires on 30 November 2027 and names Planit Testing as the provider. No ISO certificate recorded anywhere in this comparison is matched to a registry entry of that kind. SOC 2 and three ISO codes sit beside it on the about page without certificate numbers. Ten contracting models are published on the company's own pages. Onboarding is stated at one week. The regulated client list runs to Riyad Bank, Banque Saudi Fransi, Habib Bank Limited, Tadawul and the Dubai Health Authority.

Twenty names were recorded from a logo wall of roughly 136, none with an engagement description attached. None of the four published case studies states a numeric result. The Temenos T24 case gives a load target of two to three thousand concurrent users rather than a measurement. TestFort, by comparison, states a measured result in every one of its six published cases. No G2 profile and no GoodFirms profile were found.

Procurement that scores process maturity is the reason to shortlist this one, along with banking, telecom and public-sector programmes that need a test team standing apart from the build team, and buyers wanting delivery presence in the Gulf. Anyone who reads peer reviews first should weigh that single profile against the 65 reviews a1qa publishes across three. EU-only data residency is the other gap, where QA Madness names a Polish data controller and applies standard model clauses to its contractors.

Eight of the eighteen named clients hold an ISO/IEC 30107-3 presentation-attack-detection confirmation letter issued by the laboratory itself: Microsoft Azure for Face Liveness, Amazon for Rekognition Face Liveness, Onfido, Yoti for MyFace, Shufti Pro, Incode Technologies for Deepsight, Suprema for the Q-Face Engine and Miaxis Biometrics for fingerprint live detection. That is evidence of a form nothing else here produces. The credentials are laboratory authorisations rather than management-system certificates — accreditation under NVLAP Lab Code 200962-0, FIDO Alliance biometrics laboratory status, a Mastercard accreditation for biometric testing on mobile and wearable devices, Android Security Partner status, and a DEA approval for the EPCS certification process held since 2013. The commercial position is stated plainly: no contractual minimum and no long-term contract.

No headcount appears anywhere: the LinkedIn company page returns a login wall. This is the only file of the twelve whose team-size field is empty. The Clutch and G2 slugs both returned 404. QualityLogic publishes 37 reviews across two directories. ISO/IEC 17025 attests laboratory testing competence rather than an information security management system, and neither ISO 27001 nor SOC 2 appears anywhere in the file, where DeviQA holds both ISO 27001 and ISO 20000-1.

Certification work that only an accredited laboratory can issue belongs here — FIDO, Mastercard biometrics, Android Biometrics, EPCS — together with presentation-attack detection and biometric performance work to ISO/IEC 30107 and ISO/IEC 19795, and accessibility work that has to arrive with a VPAT conformance report. Buyers who need client data to stay inside the United States belong here, together with hardware-adjacent products — IoT, smart energy, print systems, OTT and streaming media — and teams that want to open with a pilot instead of a signed term. Procurement that requires a certificate rather than a compliance statement is not served, where Kualitatem publishes five credentials. A European or Asian delivery centre is the other gap, and TestDevLab runs its lab work from the Baltics.

The engineers-for-hire page adds average project tenure of 3-7 years, staff turnover of 4.4%, and 8-12 years of experience for test leads. All nine are recorded as collection notes rather than as scored values, because no second source states any of them and the company is the only publisher. One of them contradicts a field: the industries page names 22 sectors, not the 40+ the about page claims.

The counts in the summary table came from the profiles themselves and are higher on two of the three, while the home page states a third figure again — 77 verified reviews across the sites combined. The review dimension lands on the same level of the scale under either set, so the three-way discrepancy is a thing to raise with the supplier rather than something that moves a score.

Sub-scores and review text are the gap in this block. What each of the eight scores was read from

Three ISO certificates named on one page, plus a GDPR data-handling statement in the privacy policy, clear the level that asks for a single named certificate. The next level up is where the file stops: nothing in the certificate line can be checked away from the vendor's own pages, which the certificates section below takes apart standard by standard.
  • Client review quality and volume — 100. This is the one dimension at the ceiling of its scale: three profiles, an average of 5.0 on each, and over fifty reviews in total. No platform sits below 4.5, so the cap that would pull the level down does not apply.
  • Industry and regulatory coverage — 85. Of the 22 sectors named, seven are regulated, and two of those carry a named client case. Two things hold it under 100: the regulatory references sit on the certifications page as a general standards list rather than inside the case texts, and every sector entry points at one index URL rather than a page of its own.
  • Named clients and published outcomes — 75. Three named cases, each with at least one measurable outcome, is exactly this level. The step to 100 needs five such cases plus a third-party attribution; the remaining named clients appear as a logo with a source and no case text, and no client quote, press item or conference talk is recorded as a source.

Certificates and data handling, and what to request

Two different kinds of claim sit on the same vendor page. Three ISO standards are listed as certifications DeviQA holds. Six others — GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS, SOC 2, ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR Part 11 — appear as alignment wording or as rules the company tests client products against. The cards below keep those apart, because only the first kind ends in a document a supplier can hand over.

For all three ISO entries the vendor page stops at the name of the standard. It does not say who ran the audit or when the certificate lapses, and a search of certification-body registers during collection returned no matching record. Scope and validity are therefore settled at purchase, not from a web page: ask for the certificate itself, read which sites and services the audit covered, and check the expiry date before the contract is signed. An ISO scope can be one office rather than the company.

Standards published as certifications the company holds

ISO 9001 — quality management

Covers how a supplier plans work, reviews it and corrects what went wrong. It says nothing about how your test data is protected.

ISO 27001 — information security management

The certifications page attaches this one to data handling, stating that it "keeps your sensitive data safe and aligned with GDPR, HIPAA, and enterprise security requirements".

ISO 20000-1 — IT service management

Covers incidents, changes and service levels: how a running engagement is operated month to month rather than how a project is tested. Of the three, this is the one whose subject is an engagement in progress rather than a single project.

  • Request: the certificate and the service scope named on it, then match that scope against the services you are buying

Standards named as alignment rather than as an audit of the supplier

GDPR — personal data

The privacy policy states that the company collects personal data "in strict accordance with the GDPR and other data protection and data privacy laws". The regulation issues no certificate, so the wording is a statement of intent that a contract has to carry.

  • Request: a signed data processing agreement naming sub-processors, transfer mechanism and retention periods. The published policy contains none of the three

SOC 2 — security controls

The page states that controls "are aligned with the SOC 2 Trust Services Criteria" and that the company prepares "test evidence for clients undergoing SOC 2 audits". Alignment is the supplier describing its own controls; preparing evidence for a client's audit is a service sold, not an examination of the supplier.

HIPAA — protected health information

The page says HIPAA "safeguards protected health information in US healthcare projects". No US authority certifies a supplier against HIPAA, so there is no certificate to ask for here; what binds a testing supplier is a contract.

PCI DSS — cardholder data

The page says PCI DSS "secures payment systems for fintech and e-commerce apps" — a description of what gets tested for clients, not of an assessment of the supplier's own environment.

ISO 13485 and Part 11 — regulated products

ISO 13485 is named for medtech software testing and the FDA rule for life sciences and health tech software. Both are listed as standards client products are tested against, and neither appears among the certifications the company holds.

Twenty-one clients named without a result

Twenty-four clients are named in public sources for this company. Three of them come with an outcome; the remaining twenty-one appear as a name and a link, with no case text attached. Mimecast, Sprinklr, Framer, BP, Descript, CipherHealth, Therapy Brands, QIMA and Grover are in that second group. A name on a client list records that work happened. It does not say what was tested, over how long, or what changed as a result.

A library of 52 studies, part of it anonymised

The case-studies index links 52 studies. Several drop the client name under NDA: a quality management product, a cybersecurity provider, an art management platform, a cryptocurrency wallet, a betting application, an encrypted mobile messenger and a childcare management system. An anonymised case can be read, but it cannot be matched to a customer, so no figure in it can be put to the buyer it describes.

What these figures have not been through

No client quote, press item or conference talk about this work is recorded as a source in the company file, so each figure above rests on one page written by the supplier. QA staff augmentation vs managed testing services: where the first-ranked company fits

The question that comes before the supplier is which shape of work you are buying: QA staff augmentation vs managed testing services. Augmentation puts testers under your own QA lead and leaves the process where it is. Managed testing moves the process to the supplier, which then reports on it. DeviQA publishes eight engagement models covering both ends of that split, and the one it describes as full ownership of the QA function is managed QA.

Location splits the decision twice more. Onshore vs offshore QA testing is a question about who holds the data and who works your hours: QualityLogic states that its operations are based in the United States and that client data stays inside the country, and it sells a hybrid in which a US project manager runs testers based in India. Nearshore vs offshore testing is the same question with the time zones closed up, and the DeviQA contact page lists a Mexico City office next to Warsaw and Kyiv. How many engineers sit in any one of those offices is not published.

Two searches that land on a page like this one name a supplier rather than a need: Testlio alternatives and Applause alternatives. Applause is not among the twelve companies scored here; the two crowd-based suppliers that are scored are Testlio, which publishes a crowdsourced model, and Global App Testing, which describes itself as a crowdtesting platform. The pairs below are neither search pairs nor a second ranking: eight of the other eleven companies are here because they sit closest on the total, or because they beat the first-ranked company on at least one of the eight dimensions.

DeviQA vs QA Madness

Part-time cover, work by estimate and a scoped package with a published price are each sold separately by QA Madness, and engagement flexibility runs 90 against 65 in its favour. DeviQA vs Testlio

Case studies carrying figures for iProov and Hallmark+ put Testlio at 90 for named clients and published outcomes, where DeviQA scores 75. Its burstable model, sold to scale a release crew up and back down again, puts engagement flexibility at 78 to 65. The review dimension runs the other way, 100 to 85, because 76 of the 77 reviews recorded for Testlio sit on G2 alone.

DeviQA vs ScienceSoft

Project price bands published on its own pricing page put ScienceSoft at 80 for pricing transparency, where the leader sits at 25. It holds ISO 13485 for medical devices and ISO 27701 for privacy information management, neither of which any other company here publishes. Its governance score is 65 to the leader's 60; the trade is scope, since testing is one line of a wide IT services business.

DeviQA vs a1qa

1,100+ engineers across six countries put a1qa ahead on delivery footprint, 90 to 75. It is also the only company here that sells QA vendor transition as a service in its own right, and engagement flexibility runs 75 to 65 in its favour. Where it gives ground is published outcomes, 35 to 75: the client in almost every one of its cases is described by sector rather than named.

DeviQA vs TestDevLab

Eleven offices in six countries take TestDevLab to 90 for delivery footprint, above the leader's 75. Engagement flexibility goes to it as well, 85 to 65, because every engagement length it sells is published while the leader publishes no minimum. Its own weak column is pricing transparency, where it scores 20, the lowest mark in this field.

DeviQA vs Kualitatem

Of the five certificates Kualitatem publishes, the TMMi Level 5 appraisal carries a certificate number and an expiry date in the TMMi Foundation registry. Governance is scored 65 for Kualitatem and 60 for DeviQA, which publishes no appraised maturity level of any kind. What to verify before you sign

  1. Ask for the certificate numbers, the registrar and the current audit scope. The certifications page names 3 standards without any of the three.
  2. Ask which office would staff your account. The head office here comes from the directory profile because the company site names none, and the two published office lists do not match.
  3. Ask for current headcount by role. The company site and the LinkedIn page give two different sizes.
  4. Ask for a written rate card. The hourly range here comes from the directory profile; the company site publishes no rate.
  5. Ask for the minimum engagement in writing — budget, duration and team size. No minimum of any kind is published, so nothing here tells you the smallest deal on offer.
  6. Ask for the overlap hours in writing. No time-zone or coverage policy is published.

What separates a strong QA supplier from a weak one

Automation stated as coverage, not as a tool list. Every company in this comparison publishes the tools it works with, and a stack page records only that the tools were bought. The case library answers the question a stack page cannot: whether a study names the customer, names the framework and puts a figure against the scope it covered. The Compass case study published by DeviQA is that shape. It reports 85% test coverage on a named real-estate platform, and it dates the work to 2016, so the figure has a period behind it. Absence looks like forty tool names with no study attached to any of them, or a study that reports faster releases without saying what a release run took before. Ask for two cases before the second call: one built on the stack you already run, one on a stack the team had to pick up.

Certification claims that point somewhere other than the supplier's own site. A certifications page is a claim, and three things turn a claim into a document: the certificate number, the body that ran the audit, and the date the certificate lapses. A public register carrying the entry does the same job in one click. The TMMi Level 5 appraisal held by Kualitatem is recorded in this ranking from the TMMi Foundation's list of certified organisations, a page the supplier does not control. The other four standards in the same file — ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 20000-1 and SOC 2 — are recorded from its own pages, which is the ordinary case across the twelve. Where only the name of a standard is published, treat it as an open procurement item: ask for the certificate, then read the scope printed on it, because a scope can cover one office rather than a company.

Client outcomes with the customer and the number in the same place. Count a case library twice: how many studies name the customer, and how many of those carry a figure. Testlio publishes an iProov case reporting more than $150k saved. The same study states testing across 500+ real devices, which is what a buyer needs in order to see where the saving came from. A logo wall carries less than one named study does, and a study whose subject is "a European bank" cannot be turned into a reference call. Figures of this kind are written by the supplier and not confirmed by the customer, on this page and on any other, so the follow-up does not change: ask for the client contact, the period the measurement covers and the baseline it was measured against.

Peer reviews spread over more than one directory. A review record on a single platform is a record filtered by one set of moderation rules, and the buyer sees whatever that filter passed. QA Madness holds profiles on Clutch, G2 and GoodFirms, and the average rating is 4.8 on each of the three. Its Clutch profile carries 38 of those reviews. The second thing to check is arithmetic: a headline count printed on the supplier's own site should be reachable by adding the platform profiles together, and where it is not, one of the two figures is stale. Both checks take ten minutes — open the profiles, add the counts, compare them with the number the company prints on itself.

A budget figure published before the first sales call. Three forms exist and they are not interchangeable: an hourly rate, a minimum engagement, and a fixed-price package with a scope attached to it. Global App Testing states on its own How We Help page that minimum investment starts around $10,000, which is a floor a buyer can hold a budget against. No hourly rate for that company appears on any directory profile, so a published floor and a published rate answer different questions. A range that exists only on a Clutch or GoodFirms profile records what the supplier told a directory, and it carries no scope, no role mix and no minimum. Ask which roles sit inside any published number, and ask what the number leaves out.

Delivery locations and a contracting entity that can be looked up. Two pages settle this, the offices page and the privacy policy, and they are the two most buyers skip. The TestDevLab privacy policy names the contracting entity as SIA TestDevLab with registration number 40103486142. It also gives a data protection contact address, and the company site lists eleven offices. The first-ranked company stops short of that: its privacy policy names "DeviQA Solutions and its affiliates" without a registration number, and the policy carries a date of 19 February 2019. Where the entity is unnamed, the buyer cannot tell which company signs, under which law a dispute would be heard, or where the data sits. Ask which office would staff the account and which entity appears on the contract.

How to choose a software testing company, step by step

Six steps, ordered by what each one costs to run. The first two take a page of writing and ten minutes of reading per supplier. The last one costs money. Every step ends in something that can be filed — a document, a number in writing, or a yes or no from the supplier — and a step that ends in an impression has not been finished. Each one also says what to do when the answer never arrives, because a refusal at a known point in the sequence is itself a result.

1. Write the requirement sheet before opening a single supplier site. One page is enough. Every line on it is a question that can be answered yes or no about a company: a country the data has to stay in, a class of certificate, a delivery model, a start date, a budget ceiling. Split the page in two — lines that end the conversation when the answer is no, and lines you would like to have. For most buyers this sheet is the whole of a QA RFP, since a longer document mostly restates the same questions in prose. The step is done when every line reads as a question with two possible answers. A line that resists that phrasing — strong communication, senior engineers — is a preference, and it goes in the second list, where it cannot quietly disqualify anyone.

2. Fill the sheet from public pages, ten minutes per supplier, before any contact. Four pages carry most of the answers: the services catalogue, the certifications page, the privacy or security page, and whatever the company publishes about engagement models and price. Mark each line published, named-only or absent, and paste the URL and the date you read it beside the mark. Some rows close here. The QA Madness privacy policy names the contracting company as the data controller and states that data is deleted within one year of the contract ending; a1qa states a default retention of personal data of no more than two years. Other rows cannot close: QualityLogic publishes no privacy policy page, and the address where one would sit returns an error. The step is done when every supplier has a dated column with absences recorded as absences, and a recorded absence is the input to step three rather than a rejection.

3. Send one email asking for the document behind every credential you were shown. A named standard or a badge is a claim until a file arrives, and the request goes out before a meeting is booked, because writing it costs nothing but the time to write it. What comes back should carry four things: the certificate number, the body that ran the audit, the date the certificate lapses, and the sites and services the audit covered. DeviQA shows a badge reading "ISTQB Certified Company" on its about page, and the ISTQB partner directory returned no matching entry when it was opened on 2026-09-06, so nothing but an answer naming the entity that holds it will close that row. Testlio closes the equivalent row from the public side: its certification was published as an announcement dated 9 June 2025 that names the firm which ran the audit. The step is done when every credential on the sheet has either a document or a written statement that none exists. Silence that outlasts the proposal is the answer — record the standard as unevidenced and check which of the two lists from step one the line was in.

4. Ask for two engagements in your own sector and one customer who will take a call. Case text matters less than the three things behind it: what the number was before, the period it was measured over, and who did the measuring. QAwerk names eighteen clients on its site and attaches an outcome to seven of them, which lets the request start from a public list instead of from a promise. The opposite shape is published here too: two case studies on the Testlio site carry no client name, one of them reporting $10.7M in annual savings for a sports media platform, and a figure with no customer beside it cannot be put to anyone. The step is done when a reference call sits in the calendar. An NDA is a real reason to withhold a name; where one is cited, ask for the baseline and the measurement period on the anonymised case, plus one reference from any sector. A company that offers neither has left you with no delivery record to check.

5. Put the commercial terms in an email before anyone drafts a statement of work. Five answers, each a number or a date: price by role, the smallest engagement the company will take, the date testers start, the notice period, and what happens to the test assets when the contract ends. Part of this can be read first and then compared with what you are told. TestDevLab publishes its engagement lengths, among them a one-time engagement starting from a week, while no hourly figure for it appears on its own site or on any directory. Kualitatem publishes the shape of a deal rather than its price, naming fixed-price, time-and-materials and milestone-based commercial models on its FAQ page. The step is done when the five answers exist in writing with a date attached. A company that will not put a minimum in writing ahead of a scoping call has told you the minimum is set per deal, so ask the same question again once the proposal lands and compare the two answers.

6. Buy one small piece of work with the pass mark written down before it starts. The mark comes first: what has to be delivered, by when, and the one missing thing that would make the answer no. A first slice does not have to be invented, because two companies here publish one. TestDevLab describes a proof of concept in which one QA engineer joins for one to two weeks. QualityLogic publishes a pilot engagement as an entry route. The step is done when a dated deliverable exists and a go or no-go has been recorded against the mark set beforehand. A company that sells only a multi-month retainer has answered with a commercial model rather than with a capability: keep the pass mark, apply it to the first month, and make the notice period from step five the exit.

Questions to ask before hiring a QA vendor

A question earns its place on the first call if the answer shows something the supplier's own pages do not. Stack lists, certificate names and case studies are already public and can be read the week before, which is what this page is for. The seven below sit on gaps that run across all twelve companies compared here — the fields that stayed empty during collection because nobody fills them in. Certificate documents are the one exception, and they have a list of their own in the section on certificates and data handling.

When do the named engineers start, and what starts the clock?

Where a supplier publishes a ramp-up figure at all, it sits on a services page and was written before anyone had seen your repository, your access process or your security review. Where none is published, the date exists only in the answer you are given, and an answer with no document behind it survives exactly as long as the person who said it. What separates two suppliers is what the count covers: signature to first CV, or signature to the first test executed against your build. Ask for both of those dates, then ask which one the contract will carry. A range with no starting event named is not a start date you can hold anybody to.

What is the smallest engagement you will sign, and what ends it?

Public pages settle this for almost no one, and the few that say anything each pick their own unit: a money floor, a shortest engagement in weeks, or a statement that no long-term contract is required. None of the three answers the other two, so a supplier quoting one unit has not told you what a supplier quoting another one did. A floor tells you whether you can start small; the exit clause tells you what stopping costs. Ask for the minimum in three units — money per month, hours per month and months of commitment — then ask for the notice period and what happens to work in progress inside it.

Who will work on the account, and how much of their week do we get?

Headcount is the most published number in this category: eleven of the twelve give a company team size. None of them names the engineers who would staff a new account, and no page read for this ranking states seniority for a named team. Where a case study does describe a team, it describes the one that finished the work, which is a record rather than a commitment. Ask for CVs with years in the role, for the share of each person's week your account holds, and for how many other accounts those same people carry. Put the question to the test lead as well, since that is usually the role spread thinnest.

What happens when one of those engineers leaves the account?

Rotation is the risk no public page addresses: nothing collected for this ranking describes notice, replacement or handover for any of the twelve. A staff-retention percentage, where a company publishes one, is an average across the whole business and says nothing about the person who knows your regression suite. The answer worth testing is procedural — how many days of notice come before a rotation, how many days the outgoing and incoming engineers overlap, who pays for the ramp-up, and whether you approve the replacement or are told about them. A supplier that has done this before answers in days and named roles.

How many hours of our working day does the team cover?

Every company here publishes a location — a head office, a list of delivery sites, or both — and not one publishes the hours those sites are staffed. A city gives you a time zone, not a shift, and not the answer to who is at a keyboard when your pipeline breaks at 17:00 your time. Ask for the overlap window in hours and get it into the contract rather than into a call summary. Ask who is reachable outside that window and what response time applies to a blocked release. Ask whether the overlap survives a change of engineer, because a replacement may sit in a different office from the person who left.

Which numbers will you report each month, and against which baseline?

Measurement in this category is published backwards. Across the twelve companies, 174 named clients are recorded from case pages and client lists, and 67 of those carry a published outcome beside the name; the rest are names with nothing attached. A finished case study also reports whichever metric its author picked once the work was over. Ask for the monthly report template from a live account with the client name removed, for the definition behind each metric on it, and for who measures the starting point before any testing begins. Where the baseline is taken in the first month by the team being measured, the first improvement is arithmetic rather than a result.

Who owns the tests when the engagement ends, and how do they arrive?

Automation tooling is published in this category tool by tool; ownership of what gets written with it is published by no one. No page collected for the twelve states who holds the rights to the test cases, the automation code and the test data once a contract closes. The question bites hardest where the supplier's own framework or dashboard holds the tests, because leaving then means rewriting instead of exporting. Ask which repository the code sits in during the engagement, which clause assigns the copyright, what export format the test cases and defect history come out in, and whether any licence you would still depend on afterwards is in your name or theirs.

How specific an answer has to be

Hold each answer to the shape suppliers reach for when they are at their most concrete in public. The payment-platform case DeviQA publishes for Tipalti is that shape: a named customer, 200+ test plans and 100+ regression tests behind the work, a regression cycle stated at two days, and twelve years given as the period the account has run. Each of those four can be read back to that customer on a reference call, which is what makes them answers rather than assertions. "We shortened their regression cycle and have worked with them for years" carries the same claim and leaves a caller with nothing to confirm. The same company publishes no start date and no minimum engagement anywhere, and that is exactly why those two get asked: for the fields no supplier fills in, the reply on the call is the only record you will ever hold, so it belongs in the contract and not in your notes.

QA outsourcing risks: four ways the purchase fails

The four failures below are mechanical. None of them starts with a supplier behaving badly; each starts with something the contract left undefined, becomes visible in the second or third month, and costs a quarter of the budget before anyone names it. Each entry sets out how it begins, what it looks like on the ground once it has, what it costs, and the term or the check that closes it. All four are read from what the twelve companies here publish — and, more often, from the fields none of them fills.

An hourly rate bought before anyone defined finished work

It begins in the comparison sheet. Eight of the twelve show the same $25-49 hourly band. Every one of the ten rates recorded in this comparison was read from a Clutch or GoodFirms profile rather than from the supplier's own site. A directory band carries no role mix, no scope and no statement of what arrives at the end of a week, so the sheet compares the one number the suppliers had least reason to think about.

By the second invoice the shape of the problem is visible: hours are itemised and outputs are not. Nobody can say how many test cases the month produced, which releases were covered or how many defects reached production, because the contract never named a unit those things would be counted in. Renewal then arrives with no baseline to renew against, and a second quote cannot be set beside the first.

The term that closes it defines the deliverable before the rate. QA Madness publishes Work by Estimate, in which testing scope, hours and cost are appraised before work starts. Kualitatem publishes project-based pricing against a defined scope alongside its hourly models. Where the model stays hourly, the same job is done by writing the monthly output into the statement of work: suites maintained, environments covered, the report that lands at the end of a sprint.

Automation written as a repository instead of a gate in the build

This one starts with a statement of work that counts scripts. Two hundred tests are commissioned and two hundred are delivered. No clause says where the suite runs, what a run may cost in minutes, or who fixes it when it goes red. The tests pass on the machine they were written on.

Month three is where it shows. The suite is run by hand before a release rather than on every change; failures that turn out to be timing rather than defects get muted one at a time; a release goes out with the run skipped, and nothing breaks. After that the suite is a cost with no reader, and the next team rewrites it. Regression goes back to being manual, and the automation line has been paid twice.

Two kinds of published figure survive this test, because neither could exist unless the suite ran on a trigger and someone maintained it. The Compass case published by DeviQA reports the end-to-end run per pull request cut from 40+ minutes to 10 minutes, which is a per-commit measurement rather than a count of scripts. The B2B SaaS case published by a1qa reports a flaky test rate of 3.8%. The same case states a 29% effort reduction that includes maintenance. Both sets of figures come from the supplier. The contract clause behind them is short: the pipeline the suite runs in, the time budget for a run, and the named owner of a red build.

A certificate taken on the word of the page that names it

Procurement ticks a box against a logo. Across these twelve companies, that box is nearly always ticked against the supplier's own page: no ISO certificate recorded anywhere in this comparison is matched to an entry in an issuing body's register, and certificate numbers, auditing bodies and expiry dates are absent from every one of them. TestFort publishes a CMMI Level 3 appraisal on its own awards page, and no CMMI Institute record for it was found during collection. QualityLogic states that it is SOC 2 compliant without naming a report type, an audit period or an auditing firm, and it publishes no certificate of any kind.

The gap opens when your own security review asks for the document. A scope printed on a certificate can cover one office out of six. An audit period can have closed two years ago. A statement of alignment with a framework is not an examination of the supplier at all. That conversation lands in month two, after the testers have started and after test data has already moved.

One credential in this field is checkable away from the vendor: the TMMi Foundation registry lists Kualitatem at Level 5 with a certificate number, the appraisal provider and an expiry of 30 November 2027. Where a supplier publishes only the name of a standard, the deal date for producing the certificate, its scope and its expiry belongs in the contract rather than in the evaluation notes.

A signature with no start date and no floor under it

Rate and headcount get settled on the call. The two numbers that decide the first quarter — the day testers are on the board, and the smallest engagement the supplier will accept — stay in email, because neither is usually published. Four of the twelve companies here state anything at all about a minimum, and two of those four state that there is none. iBeta publishes no contractual minimum and no long-term contract. Global App Testing puts minimum investment at around $10,000. TestDevLab sells a one-time engagement from one week. Seven of the twelve publish a ramp-up time. Those figures run from three days at ScienceSoft to 21 days at a1qa, a spread of nearly three weeks between suppliers who describe the work in the same words.

What follows a signature made without those two numbers is a quarter that pays for a handover. The first sprints go to environment access, domain walkthroughs and hiring against your account; coverage starts later than the invoice does; and the first attempt to cut scope in month four runs into a floor nobody had disclosed. For DeviQA neither field could be filled in this comparison: no single onboarding figure and no minimum engagement appears on any of its pages, which makes both of them opening items rather than checks.

Both numbers belong on the order form, not in the deck: the date the named testers are working, and the smallest unit the contract can be reduced to without a penalty. A published figure can be wrong for your scope, but it can be read before anyone books a call; an unpublished one has to be negotiated after you have already chosen.

Its homepage states 3-5 days to start the project, which is the field recorded for it in this comparison. The number can be wrong for your scope, but it can be read before anyone books a call. The first-ranked company publishes no start time at all, so the same question there opens a negotiation instead of a check.

Kualitatem — when procurement wants the process claim verified elsewhere

The TMMi Foundation lists it as a certified organisation at Level 5, so the process claim can be confirmed away from the supplier's own site. No appraised maturity level of any kind is published by the first-ranked company, which is the gap this name closes.

How to fill the third slot

Pick the third name for the requirement that ends the conversation when a supplier cannot meet it, not for the one that would make the work better. Write that requirement as something a public page can answer yes or no to: a country the data stays in, a certificate class, a tester network, a bench size, a budget floor. Then read the page in this order.

What is QA outsourcing, and what does the supplier take over?

QA outsourcing means a separate company runs some or all of your testing under contract. Three shapes dominate among the twelve suppliers compared here. Staff augmentation puts testers under your own QA lead and leaves your process alone. A dedicated team works only on your product but keeps the supplier's own management layer. Managed testing moves the process itself across, so the supplier writes the test strategy and reports against it. How many shapes a supplier will sell varies: QAwerk publishes two formats, DeviQA publishes eight. Ask which one a quote assumes, because the same headcount costs a different amount in each.

What types of testing can be outsourced?

Almost any type, and the twelve files here show how far the catalogue stretches. Functional, regression, integration, API, performance, security, localization, usability and compatibility testing appear on nearly every supplier's service page, and accessibility testing appears on all twelve. Past that point the lists diverge. TestDevLab sells audio and video quality measurement, battery drain testing and simulated network conditions. iBeta sells presentation-attack detection for biometrics. QAwerk sells AR and VR testing. The work that rarely moves out is exploratory testing of a domain nobody outside your company understands, because the cost sits in learning the domain rather than in running the test.

When should a company outsource QA?

Four triggers show up repeatedly. Release cadence has outrun the one tester you have, so regression eats the sprint. The regression suite has grown past what a manual run can finish overnight. You need coverage you cannot staff: devices, markets, languages, or a certificate you cannot issue yourself. Or a fixed deadline needs three testers for six weeks and no permanent role afterwards. How do I retain control when outsourcing QA?

Keep three things on your side of the line: sign-off on the test strategy, ownership of the test management tool and the data inside it, and the definition of severity. ScienceSoft describes a managed testing model in which the team is run by the client's QA manager, which is the arrangement that keeps decisions in-house while execution moves out. SOC 2 is held as a certificate by one company, Kualitatem. An appraised process maturity level is published by two: Kualitatem at TMMi Level 5 and TestFort at CMMI Level 3. Which you need follows from your own buyer: information security for enterprise procurement, a medical device quality system where a device is in scope, an accredited laboratory where a certificate has to be issued to your product.
